The Hampstead Institute believes in crafting lasting places where people can live, grow, and learn. We promote building community through design, education, and wellness for all ages, using Hampstead as a focus for study and innovation.
Founded in 2008 as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, we oversee Hampstead Farm, organize large annual community events like The Food Invasion, interact with other non-profits, and promote life-long learning and wellness through initiatives within Hampstead and the wider region.
The Hampstead Institute has served different roles over the past decade. Originally created in 2008 to foster culture and learning within our community, the Institute saw the need to focus its mission to include education in the fields of design, development, wellness and sustainable living. We hosted New Urbanist leaders for workshops and lectures on subjects from sustainability and architecture to organic farming and literacy.
As time went on, the Hampstead Institute founded EAT South, which we helped grow into its own entity, and established a long-term relationship of support with the Montessori School at Hampstead in its hands-on curriculum at our farm and throughout the Hampstead community.
Today, we continue to focus on educational and local food endeavors with the Montessori School at Hampstead and Hampstead Farm. We promote the support of other non-profits throughout the region including the Montgomery Area Food Bank, the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, and the Montgomery Humane Society to name a few. Additionally, the institute promotes the benefits of culture, design and civic art within community. These efforts are visible through arts oriented events and support for the arts and artists throughout Hampstead.
